Frequently asked questions

  • An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-trained health professional who specialises in prescribing safe and effective exercise for people living with chronic conditions, injuries, or disabilities. At Body in Motion in Alstonville, we design personalised programs to help you recover from injury, manage health conditions, and improve overall wellbeing.

  • No referral is required to book with us. You can contact Body in Motion directly to arrange an appointment. However, if you have a chronic health condition and want to access Medicare rebates, your GP can provide a referral under a Chronic Disease Management Plan.

  • Yes. Body in Motion is registered with Medicare, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), WorkCover, and most private health insurers. Medicare rebates may apply if you have a GP referral. Private health rebates depend on your level of cover — we recommend checking with your provider.

  • Exercise Physiology can improve health outcomes for people living with conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, mental health challenges, cancer recovery, and pulmonary disease. Our programs are evidence-based and tailored to your needs, helping you move safely and confidently.

  • Your initial consultation at Body in Motion includes:

    • A detailed health and medical history

    • Exercise testing

    • Goal setting

    • A personalised treatment and training plan

You’ll leave with a clear, structured exercise program designed specifically for your goals and condition.

  • This depends on your condition, goals, and progress. Some clients come for a short block of sessions to learn safe techniques, while others benefit from ongoing support. At your first consult, we’ll recommend a plan that suits your needs.

  • We’re based inside Edge Fitness, 13 Alston Avenue, Alstonville NSW. We also work with clients from across the Ballina, Lismore, and Northern Rivers region.

  • Wear comfortable exercise clothing and shoes you can move in. If you have any recent medical reports, imaging, or GP referral paperwork, bring those along too.

  • While Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists both support rehabilitation, the focus is slightly different. Physiotherapists often treat acute injuries and provide hands-on treatment, while Exercise Physiologists specialise in long-term management and recovery through structured exercise programs.
